What direct primary care is
Direct primary care is a membership model. You pay your physician a flat monthly fee, the practice stops billing insurance for primary care, and in exchange the panel shrinks enough that your doctor can actually see you. Most Seattle DPC practices charge $50 to $150 a month and carry 600 to 1,000 patients per physician.
That is a meaningful improvement over conventional primary care, where a 2,000-patient panel and a 15-minute appointment are the norm. If you have concluded that the standard model is not working for you, DPC is a reasonable and affordable answer.
What a DPC membership usually includes
Office visits without a copay, basic in-house labs, direct messaging or phone access to your physician, and same-day or next-day appointments. What it generally does not include is advanced diagnostic testing. Imaging, cardiac screening, and cancer screening are referred out and billed separately through your insurance.
This is not a criticism of the model. It is arithmetic. At $100 a month, a practice cannot absorb the cost of a whole-body MRI.
Direct primary care and concierge medicine are not the same thing

Where Kosmos fits

If your goal is affordable, accessible care and basic prevention, find a good Seattle DPC practice. You will get most of what makes membership medicine better, at a price that is far easier to justify, and we would rather tell you that than take your money.
