Why Kosmos exists.
The diagnosis
American primary care is built for the wrong outcome.
The way primary care is delivered in this country is perfectly designed to produce dismal patient experience, escalating costs, physician burnout, and worsening health outcomes. Only five cents of every healthcare dollar is invested in primary care. The rest funds reactive, downstream sick-care. Kosmos is a working answer to that problem.
Dr. Chris Dodd, founder
Kosmos was founded by Dr. Chris Dodd, M.D., a physician with two decades of experience caring for patients in clinical and leadership roles. He completed medical school at Boston University, graduate work at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and his undergraduate at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Dodd has practiced and led primary care across the United States and internationally. He developed and scaled care models for patients living with diabetes, HIV, and drug-resistant tuberculosis. He has served as Chief Medical Officer for venture-backed national primary care medical groups. After watching patients, family, and friends struggle to navigate a chaotic, reactive system, he chose to build the practice he believed primary care should be.
Greek-American by heritage, he chose the name “Kosmos” deliberately. In ancient Greek, kosmos means the order and harmony of the universe. The mission is to bring more order to American healthcare and restore harmony to the most sacred of relationships: the one between a patient and a physician.
How Kosmos operates
Seven principles. One practice.
These are not aspirational language. They are the operating system of the practice. Every decision about how appointments run, how the team communicates, and what diagnostics we recommend traces back to one of them.
Principle 01
Convenience
Same-day access, virtual visits, in-home visits, and global air medical transport. Care that comes to you when it should.
Principle 02
Membership focused
A direct relationship between member and physician, with a fee structure that funds time and attention rather than billing volume.
Principle 03
Personalized, multi-generational
Care that recognizes the patient as a whole person, across stages of life. Members include young adults, working adults, and retirees, often within the same family.
Principle 04
Advanced care
Modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools integrated into primary care, not held behind specialist referral walls.
Principle 05
AI-enabled
Your physician uses AI to sharpen diagnosis and personalize care, applying tools to imaging, labs, and risk models that a clinician could not apply alone. AI assists the physician; it never replaces the relationship.
Principle 06
Proactive, not reactive
Find and address problems before they surface as symptoms. Prevention is the work, not an afterthought.
Principle 07
Live better, longer
The goal is not just years. The goal is healthy years. Every decision is calibrated against this.
